Education Leaders Professional Development Programme

 



ELPDP
offers a focused and challenging learning experience by a period of immersion in the education system of the United Kingdom.  It focuses upon school improvement where the teachers and leaders are at the heart of education innovation. It aspires to generate new networks of educational leaders who are committed to the provision of high quality education.

 

MAXIMISING ATTAINMENT

 

ELPDP is a building block for schools, education authorities and other educational leaders seeking to meet the real challenges of learning in the 21st Century. This programme represents a key initiative in supporting the development of the education profession and the role of various stakeholders in school improvement.

 

The priority themes listed here have been drawn up by the Education Exchange UK in partnership with the Leeds Trinity and All Saints (accredited college of the University of Leeds) in line with education priorities such as:

ELPDP explores issues for educational leaders in related to the development of children in all key stages of education in partnership with agencies and the extended school model in meeting the ‘Every Child Matters’ agenda as competent, reflective professionals:


Disability Discrimination Act and Education - Extended and Community Schools Diversity and Inclusion in the Education -Investors in People and Pupils Awards Coaching and Mentoring in Education - Emotional literacy and learning Special Needs, non-teaching specialists and multi-agency partnerships - Student Support in Secondary and Higher Education (Leeds Trinity)



ALTERNATIVE EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS

Participating educational leaders will also be able to visit different educational and learning settings, subject to availability, to see education in action such as:

Yorkshire Cricket Club - Leeds Rhinos - Barnardos – Eureka – Magna - Fountains Abbey - Saltaire Mills - York Castle Musuem - Bradford Industrial Museum – Bradford National Museum of Photography - Haworth - the home town of Bronte writers

 

WHO IS IT FOR?

The programme is open to all headteachers, education leaders, managers, senior teachers and officials who have leadership role in an educational establishment

 

HOW MANY PARTICIPANTS?

There are limited places on this programme to visit UK therefore a maximum of two persons will be allowed from each institution.  We are happy to work with groups from all sectors including private, public and charitable schools.

 

REQUIREMENTS

All participants should have a real interest in the international dimension of educational provision and a flexible attitude towards exposure to alternative systems and practice.

The duration of visit is 4 weeks which will include learning theoretical aspects, school visits and other places of educational interests. 

 

Knowledge of the English language is compulsory.  All correspondence, teaching and discussion will take place in English language.  There is no interpreting service available therefore it is necessary that you read and speak English fluently. 

 

Detailed programme planning, management and travel arrangements will be undertaken by the Education Exchange UK in liaison with the project participants and Leeds Trinity. 

 

 

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Accommodation and travel for the purpose and duration of the programme is all covered in the programme costs.  Participants will have to organise their own travel and/or accommodation for any activity which is not part of the programme as agreed in advance. 

The ELPDP package will not cover the cost of flight, travel insurance, visas and vaccinations, where such are mandatory for entry into a particular country.

 

With application form full and complete passenger details are required and names as per passport must be given. Accurate information is essential to ensure that letter of confirmations are issued correctly. Passports should be valid for at least six months after the agreed visit return date.

 

Participants are also asked to provide information of any special dietary requirements or medical conditions. Pre-existing medical conditions must be disclosed and travel must not be undertaken against medical advice.

 

You will need to bring with you passport, driving licence, emergency contact, details and insurance advice as provided by the British Council.

 

Participants are required to give contact details of next of kin as part of their application. This information is immediately accessible should an emergency situation arise.


Group leaders will be provided with details of a 24-hour contact number in the UK.

 

Travel arrangements for all participants are made on the basis of the professional requirements of the visit. In order to ensure best possible service for all participants and value for money, it will not be possible to tailor travel arrangements packages for individuals.

 

Participation on the programme is a serious undertaking intended to enhance educational leader’s personal and professional development. The programme of professional activity will be intensive and participants will derive most benefit if they dedicate their time to project activity.

 

The international professional experience should contribute to school improvement in the native countries.

 

In order to qualify for the certificate of attendance post-visit reports for dissemination purposes must be provided by participants within four weeks after the activity has taken place. Templates and guidelines for report writing will be provided during the introduction. 

 

Education Exchange UK will manage the programme according to our contract with the Leeds Trinity and All Saints (accredited college of University of Leeds).   We will work alongside the college, schools and other projects for the benefit of all participants.

 

INFORMATION

Education Exchange UK will co-ordinate the submission and assessment of reports. Education Exchange UK will disseminate outcomes through our website, newsletters and other media including briefing and feedback meetings.

 

Participating educational leaders will play an active role within this programme such as team-teaching or giving presentations or workshops for local staff in order to share their own professional perspective and practice. Visits can act as catalysts for school and area links and facilitate long-term interaction with colleagues overseas.

 

Education Exchange UK and Leeds Trinity partnership hope that UK’s education experience should enhance professional capabilities and motivation by encouraging the transfer and application of new ideas, systems of classroom management and curriculum materials. The emphasis of the ELPDP is on building knowledge and experience of UK’s education system in order to improve teaching and learning practices.
